ART PRODUCTION:
MAJOR PROJECTS: Students will create 5-8 large art projects over a period of 18 weeks. Each of these large scale drawing, painting or collage projects will take approximately 2 to 3 weeks to complete. WEEKLY DRAWING: Students will create a minimum of 1 weekly drawing in the form of still life, landscape, portrait, self portrait, figurative drawing, perspective drawing. ART JOURNAL EXERCISES: Students will keep an art journal which will be their “idea” book of visual notes on, sketching, color theory, creative thinking, and experimentation. (Drawing practice and art journaling will be used as a lead up to each major art project) |
ART HISTORY: Art history will be used as motivation and inspiration for large project production. Students will be given a large project in the form of an “art problem” (similar to a story problem in math) with the exception that it has endless possible correct answers. Student will look at various artists throughout history to see how problems have been solved in the past, in order to help them achieve their own solutions. The students will understand ART HISTORY and major movements in drawing and painting from 1900 to present, along with important individual artists. Students will understand how art relates to history.
AESTHETICS and ART CRITICISM: Students will gain a vision and opinion of what they like regarding art and why they like it. Students will be able to speak and or write about art. Students will understand the many purposes of art and how art production can be used and viewed to evoke emotion. Students will understand that art means different things to different people based upon their own life experiences and what feelings and thoughts they bring to their observations. |
