DIEGO RIVER'S work, MAN AT THE CROSSROADS, was a commissioned piece that the artist created for The Rockefeller Center in NYC. The communist ideas of socialism, the image of Lenin and the images of the Socialist May Day Parade were too controversial for the time and considered too anti capitalistic for most Americans. Rivera was released from the project and the mural was destroyed. Rivera reproduced the mural later based off of a few black and white photos. The reproduction was titled "Man Controller of the Universe".
