DRAWING LESSONS AND ADVANCED DRAWING PROJECTS:

How do artists paint meaningful portraits? Many people believe that the eyes help connect the viewer to the subject of the drawing or painting. Without using words or knowing anything about the subject, the eyes of the subject can become a window to the soul.
See below some of the most famous portraits in the mediums of painting, drawing & photography. In each of these pieces the eyes are a key part of the interpretation by the viewer.

PROCEDURES: 

  • In journal, sketch along to several tutorials in class. Practice with pencils, paint, ink etc...
  • Create 4 or 5 thumbnails of your own eye through direct observation into a mirror or from selfie.
  • Sketch your eye in front view, side, and 3/4 angles using direct observations.
  • Brainstorm ideas for your final large drawing. Final drawing should meet the following requirements to the problem listed below.

OBJECTIVES

  • gain skill on how to draw eyes from different angles.
  • learn the basic anatomy of the eye.
  • understand light and shadow and how it effects the structure of the eye area.
  • demonstrate how to show feeling through a eye drawing using the addition or elimination of what you know.
  • experiment and observe a large variety of solutions throughout history. ( notice that realism in just one solution)

 ART PROBLEM: Create a unique self portrait involving your eyes

REQUIREMNTS: 
SIZE: 12 BY 12 OR LARGER
MEDIUM: PENCILS, CHARCOAL, COLORED PENCIL, INK, PASTEL, OIL PASTELS
COMPOSITION: EXPLOSION OR UNIQUE ANGLES.
SKILL: DEMONSTRATE UNDERSTANDING OF ANATOMY, LIGHT AND SHADOW, AND GROWTH IN SKILL.
CRAFTSMANSHIP: FINISH AND MATT FINAL PRODUCT FOR HANGING AND EVALUATION.
