LOOK at various mandalas and identify them all around you. Notice mandalas in nature.

CREATE A MANDALA IN YOUR ART JOURNAL: See “how to create a mandala” videos on u-tube. Try several variations in your journal. Use these pages as inspiration for your large mandala painting. Try other videos too and variations like zentagles.

COMPOSITION: Layout your mandala on canvas based upon your journal drawings. Consider the elements of ART and Principles of design.

CREATE MANDALA WITH LIGHT 2H PENCILS ON WATERCOLOR PAPER
WORK FROM LIGHT TO DARK AND PLAN YOUR COLOR SCHEMES

COLOR THEORY: Understand the use of MONOCHROMATIC, ANALOGOUS, or COMPLIMENTARY color schemes. Notice how your color choices can effect the over all feeling of your painting. Stick with your color pallett.

STAY PAINTERLY: avoid flat color and filling in areas with one single color ( like a coloring book), instead, try to use colors that are blended with others to create tints, shades, or tones.

LAYERS: begin with an underpainting and build layers of color. You can always go back into areas several times, change your mind or add variations.

MEDIUMS: this project can also be created using colored pencils, oil pastels, pastels, water color, tissue paper painting, collage techniques or combinations of many mediums.
