Nature Inspired
Watercolor

Create a watercolor painting using watercolor, watercolor pencils, sketch and wash pencils and water soluble oil pastels using nature as design inspiration.

YOUR FINAL WATERCOLOR SHOULD DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING QUALITIES and is the summation of our first 3 week of instruction in the watercolor unit.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
  1. Watercolor wash techniques.
  2. Watercolor pencil blending and shading
  3. Water soluble oil pastels or other mixed media elements.
COMPOSITIONAL SKILLS:
  1. Create an ORIGINAL design that uses the paper well. 
  2. Use Nature inspired design Inspirations
  3. Use the rule of thirds and golden ratio
  4. Create a design using Unity and Variety of the seven elements of art
  5. Color theory and understanding what blends well and what does not.
ART HISTORY/AESTHETICS AND RESEARCH:
  1. Create idea or inspiration pages in your journals with visual references.
  2. Look at a variety of artists and how they work in watercolor
PRACTICE PLAY AND EXPERIMENTATION:
  1. Wash color washes in journal
  2. Color theory notes and practices
  3. Watercolor intuitives
VOICE: 
  1. Your design theme should be reflective of you and what you like.
  2. Problem solving skills are unique to you.
